It’s a rainy day in the neighbourhood and I’ve been up to some serious cooking. I made what may be my final batch of salsa for the year, although there are still a large number of tomatoes out on the vine trying to ripen so I may have to put those guys to use in yet [...] I’ve managed to whip up a few little FO’s over the last few weeks which I’ve finally gifted so I can post about. One is Calorimetry (how on Earth are you supposed to pronounce that?) from Knitty for my friend Alice. This colourway was just right for her and her amazingly curly reddish hair, which she [...] I’ve dabbled in canning here and there periodically over the years, but last summer I was bitten by the canning bug, badly. The inspiration was probably due in part to my ever-increasing infatuation with local food, as much as it was to harvesting my first real crop of homegrown veggies. I had an abundance of hot [...] For my birthday, I got to meet my nephew! Magnus, at 13 days Magnus is finally home and he’s doing great. And apparently I’m one of the first to see him with his eyes open (with a little coaxing from his mama). The cute train has arrived. Having [...] I’ve had the chance now to enjoy tomatoes from all the various types I have growing and I thought I’d make a few notes on them. Fresh pickings Probably the tomato I am least happy with in flavour is the Yellow Pear heirloom variety. It is a low-acid variety so that probably accounts for the blandish flavour, [...] About a week and a half ago I received a treasure in the mail. Magnus Daniel Mulholland was born at 10:18 pm on September 3, 2008, weighing 8 lbs 4 oz. This has been a difficult pregnancy for my sister-in-law due to blood pressure problems so the delivery was induced after some stress tests this [...] Redstone Lake at Dusk The blog has been quiet on the home front because I’ve been lounging at the cottage. I know, I’m spoiled. And this year especially. We had a full week with only one day of rain, which was really only a misty wet day, which was kind of pretty in its own right. [...] |
